Du 1er au 9 juin, plus de quinze conférences se sont enchaînées autour du Summer Game Fest. Tour d’horizon d’une saison devenue le véritable E3 de remplacement — éclatée, surchargée, mais plus vivante que jamais.
L’E3 est mort et enterré depuis longtemps, mais la nature ayant horreur du vide (et l’industrie du jeu vidéo ayant un besoin vital de faire vibrer nos portefeuilles), le mois de juin reste le pèlerinage annuel incontournable. En 2026, la désormais traditionnelle « saison des showcases » s’est condensée sur neuf jours chrono. Quinze présentations au total, allant des rouleaux compresseurs habituels (Summer Game Fest, Xbox, Nintendo, State of Play) aux vitrines indés plus intimistes mais indispensables (The MIX, Latin American Games Showcase, Day of the Devs, Wholesome Direct…).
Le verdict est sans appel : on n’a jamais montré autant de jeux, et il n’a jamais été aussi difficile de tout suivre sans faire une overdose de caféine.
Sony dégaine en premier (et choisit la violence)
Le State of Play du 2 juin a immédiatement donné le ton de cette cuvée 2026. Une heure dense, sans fioritures, ouverte par une séquence de gameplay particulièrement brute et musclée de Marvel’s Wolverine, désormais officiellement daté au 15 septembre.
Mais la véritable déflagration de la soirée est venue en clôture avec la surprise que personne n’avait vue venir : God of War: Laufey. Exit Kratos. C’est sa compagne, Faye, que l’on incarnera dans cet épisode centré sur Fay, introduit par une superbe présentation de vingt minutes de gameplay.
Entre ces deux monstres, Sony a déroulé un calendrier d’automne qui s’annonce déjà saturé et potentiellement mortel pour nos économies :
- Silent Hill: Townfall et Control Resonant s’installeront le 24 septembre.
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword déboulera dès le lendemain, le 25 septembre.
- Phantom Blade Zero viendra planter ses lames le 29 octobre.
Pour couronner le tout, PlayStation a ressorti Until Dawn 2 de son chapeau, officiellement confié au studio Firesprite pour une sortie calée à 2027. Une excellente mise en bouche.
Summer Game Fest : Le grand barnum de Geoff Keighley
La grand-messe orchestrée par Geoff Keighley le 6 juin a joué à fond la carte du grand spectacle hollywoodien en encadrant son show par deux monuments de la pop-culture. En ouverture, les fans de survival-horror ont hurlé de joie face à l’annonce de Resident Evil Veronica, le remake tant espéré de Code: Veronica. En clôture, c’est Final Fantasy VII Revelation — le troisième et dernier volet de la trilogie Remake attendu pour 2027 — qui est venu achever les rétines des spectateurs.
Au milieu de ce tunnel d’annonces, les nostalgiques et les amateurs de nouveautés ont trouvé leur compte :
- Le retour aux affaires de The Wolf Among Us 2 (qui s’accompagnera d’un remaster du premier volet pour les fêtes de fin d’année).
- L’annonce surprise d’une suite directe pour l’angoissant Alien: Isolation.
- L’extension majeure Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance.
- L’officialisation très attendue de Guild Wars 3.
Du côté des nouvelles licences, le studio RGG (les papas de Yakuza/Like a Dragon) a intrigué son monde avec Stranger Than Heaven, tandis que le mystérieux gen ATLAS, développé par le studio genDesign (les créateurs de The Last Guardian), a captivé par sa direction artistique poétique. Déjà connu des radars, The Blood of Dawnwalker en a profité pour sécuriser sa date au 3 septembre tout en dévoilant ses ambitions massives de fresque historique.
Xbox et Nintendo bouclent la semaine au pas de charge
Chez Xbox (7 juin), l’heure était à la démonstration de force pour prouver que la machine first-party tourne enfin à plein régime. Le calendrier se précise enfin concrètement :
- Halo: Campaign Evolved viendra rafraîchir notre été dès le 28 juillet.
- Gears of War: E-Day est attendu au tournant pour le 6 octobre (directement dans le Game Pass, évidemment).
- Le tant attendu Fable s’est fendu d’un nouveau teaser magique, tandis qu’Atlus lâchait les premières images officielles de Persona 6.
La surprise est venue de Ninja Theory qui a dévoilé Senua, une toute nouvelle aventure étendant l’univers d’Hellblade, et du studio Game Freak, qui a confirmé Beast of Reincarnation pour le 4 août, marquant leur première grande incursion en dehors de la galaxie Pokémon.
Le Nintendo Direct du 9 juin a magistralement clos la semaine en envoyant des signaux clairs pour l’avenir. En tête de pont : l’annonce d’un remake complet de Zelda: Ocarina of Time taillé sur mesure pour la “Switch 2”. La future console de Nintendo a d’ailleurs sorti les muscles en s’octroyant les faveurs de Kingdom Hearts IV et de The Duskbloods, le mystérieux projet multijoueur de FromSoftware.
Les licences historiques de la maison n’étaient pas en reste avec les présentations du tout nouveau Star Fox, de Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave et d’un spin-off coopératif de la licence à calamars baptisé Splatoon Raiders.
L’indé en pleine forme (et en surchauffe)
C’est peut-être là, loin des budgets pharaoniques, que la semaine a été la plus rafraîchissante. Le Day of the Devs a aligné les valeurs sûres avec l’annonce de Trine 6 (17 septembre), d’un surprenant Super Yooka-Laylee Kart et de 33 Immortals qui s’apprête à sortir en version 1.0.
De son côté, le Latin American Games Showcase a brillé par sa richesse en réunissant pas moins de 80 jeux en provenance de douze pays différents, tandis que The MIX en propulsait une soixantaine de plus sur le devant de la scène. Les vitrines thématiques (Women-Led Games, Wholesome Direct, Deutsche Indie, India Games Showcase…) ont achevé de dessiner un panorama d’une diversité géographique et culturelle inédite dans l’histoire de l’industrie.
Le seul revers de la médaille ? Une véritable avalanche de titres dont une grande partie est repartie sans la moindre fenêtre de sortie, condamnés à aller grossir les listes d’attente Steam des joueurs dans l’anonymat relatif de l’après-show.
Ce qu’il faut retenir de ce marathon 2026
1. Un automne 2026 en mode embouteillage général
Septembre et octobre vont concentrer une densité de sorties rarement vue dans l’histoire moderne du jeu vidéo. Wolverine, Silent Hill, Control, Onimusha, Gears of War, Phantom Blade Zero… tous vont s’agglutiner sur une poignée de semaines.
Pourquoi une telle panique ? Parce que l’ombre gigantesque de GTA 6, calé au 19 novembre, plane sur l’industrie. C’est flagrant : tous les éditeurs se sont donné le mot pour vider les lieux avant cette date fatidique. Personne ne veut se retrouver en face du monstre de Rockstar ; sortir un jeu en novembre face à GTA 6, c’est accepter de jouer les hors-d’œuvre invisibles avant le plat de résistance.
2. La fragmentation est la nouvelle norme
Quinze rendez-vous distincts valent sans doute mieux qu’une seule immense messe unique pour donner de la visibilité aux petits studios. En revanche, cela impose aux joueurs — et aux rédacteurs — un marathon médiatique épuisant. Aujourd’hui, la curation et le tri deviennent des compétences à part entière pour ne pas se noyer sous le flux de trailers.
3. L’indé garde le cap et le cœur de l’industrie
Au milieu des remakes en pagaille, des suites numérotées et des exploitations de licences jusqu’à la moelle, ce sont une nouvelle fois les structures indépendantes qui auront apporté les concepts les plus mûrs et les idées les plus fraîches de la semaine.
Et maintenant ?
Reste désormais à transformer l’essai. Entre les promesses cinématiques de juin et la réalité des versions boîtes ou dématérialisées de l’automne, il y a toujours un gouffre fait de crunch, de communication et de reports de dernière minute.
Une chose est sûre : une bonne partie de ces titres majeurs vont rapidement se laisser approcher manette en main.
